Frequently Asked Questions

How is the EMI calculated?

LoanLens uses the standard EMI formula: P × r × (1+r)ⁿ ÷ ((1+r)ⁿ − 1), where P is the loan amount, r the monthly interest rate, and n the tenure in months — the same formula banks use for fixed-rate loans. Results are estimates and may differ slightly from your lender's figures due to rounding or fees.

What does the chart show?

The donut splits your total repayment into principal (mint) and interest (indigo). Tap or drag on a segment to see its exact value in the center. The center shows the total payable by default.

Can I type values instead of using the sliders?

Yes. Tap the number next to Interest rate or Tenure to type an exact value — the slider follows automatically. Rates go up to 50% p.a. and tenure up to 40 years.

What is the amortization schedule?

A year-by-year breakdown of every payment. Tap a year to expand its months and see how much of each EMI goes to principal, how much to interest, and the balance left after that month.

Which currency does the app use?

LoanLens follows your iPhone's region setting automatically (₹, $, €, …), including local digit grouping. Change it in iOS Settings → General → Language & Region.

What happens if I close my loan early? (version 1.1 and later)

Open the amortization schedule and tap any month. LoanLens shows the outstanding balance at that point, your lender's foreclosure charges, the total you'd pay to close the loan there, and the interest you'd save — or a warning when closing would cost more than simply continuing. Set your lender's fee in the Foreclosure charges field at the top of the schedule (it defaults to 0%; many floating-rate loans have no fee). Include any tax on the fee in the rate — e.g. enter 2.36% for a 2% fee plus 18% GST.

Can I see the effect of a prepayment? (version 1.1 and later)

Yes. Tap a month in the schedule and enter an amount under Or prepay a lump sum. LoanLens compares the two options lenders offer, side by side: keep your tenure and pay a smaller EMI, or keep your EMI and finish the loan earlier. Reducing the tenure almost always saves more interest — the comparison makes that easy to see.
